Built on Monero's privacy-preserving subaddress and stealth technology, XMR402 uses stateless HTTP 402 challenges with millisecond-level 0-conf transaction proofs and HMAC-SHA256 payload binding to authenticate payments directly in standard `WWW-Authenticate` and `Authorization` headers. The protocol enables AI agents and users to access gated resources by submitting a single Monero transaction proof rather than managing accounts or API keys, eliminating intermediary authentication overhead.
