Built on Electron with a Node.js/Python backend, Notate uses ChromaDB for vector embeddings and supports local inference engines (llamacpp, transformers, ollama) alongside cloud providers, enabling fully self-hosted RAG workflows. The application exposes a developer API for programmatic access and includes experimental reasoning capabilities, with ingestion tools for converting files and URLs into searchable document collections.
