Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers with Claude Code. These tools dramatically enhance Claude Code's capabilities, allowing it to interact with your filesystem, web browsers, and more.
MCP servers communicate with Claude Code via stdio transport and can be registered at three scopes—local (project-specific), user (global), or project (team-shared)—with configuration stored in `~/.claude.json` or `.mcp.json`. The architecture supports popular integrations including filesystem access, GitHub, Puppeteer-based browser automation, PostgreSQL databases, REST APIs, and specialized tools like Slack, sequential thinking, and persistent memory. Registration uses either CLI commands (`claude mcp add`) or direct JSON configuration, with automatic server startup when Claude needs the capabilities.
